The Ultimate Guide to Income From Blogging (+ Average Blogger Salary)

Today we'll take a look at everything you need to know about the financial side of blogging and answer: How much do bloggers make? We show you how much you can expect to earn in 2023, the average income and salary of bloggers (by industry), as well as tips for making more money from your blog. Your ability to earn money as a blogger depends on several important factors. Here are some tips from my personal experience to help you increase the amount of money you can make from blogging. I believe blogging is a great endeavor because you can do it in your spare time, you can work from anywhere, and you can incorporate it into your lifestyle. After publishing my blog revenue report, I received a lot of questions from readers asking how much money you can make from blogging. In this article, I’ll highlight 15 legitimate ways to make money blogging and give you some ideas on how to think about (and measure) how much money your blog is making.

How much money do you make on Blogger? :-

It’s pretty easy to make an extra $500-$2000 per month from blogging in your first year. And then in years two, three, four, and five, you can dramatically increase your monthly income from your blog. Based on several anonymous salary submissions, Glassdoor reports that the average blogger salary is over $50,000 per year.

Most successful full-time bloggers I know make over $200k per year and work 10-30 hours a week. As I mentioned earlier, I posted an income report in which I earned over $400,000 from my blogging business.

Although this is a small group, I also know bloggers who make millions each year and work less than 10 hours a week (isn’t that great!). That’s an absolutely fantastic return on your time investment.

The amount you can earn depends on the amount of traffic you get and the size of your email list. In fact, you can earn between $25,000-$50,000 in your first year of blogging, $100,000+ in your second year, $250,000+ in your third year of blogging, and $500,000+ in your fourth year.

01. GOOGLE ADSENSE :-

Income Potential $0.1 - $0.50 per pageview/month

Google Adsense allows you to place ads from the Google Display Network on your website. If you are a new blogger, Google Adsense is the easiest way to monetize your blog, but you won't be able to make a lot of money from it. Even if you get a thousand visitors a month, you can still earn up to $50 through Google Ads. But it's a start! I used Google Adsense for the first year of blogging and then moved to an ad network to get higher CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and CPC (cost per click).

02. AD NETWORK PUBLISHERS :-

$0.10 – $0.50 per page view per month

Once you reach at least 25,000 page views per month, you can (and should) turn off Google Adsense and start working directly with an ad network (also called a publisher network) that will manage the ads that display images directly on your site. Of course you make. Money. Make the most of the advertising opportunities available to you. These networks typically take 20-40% of the ad revenue displayed on your website. Even with this commission, you will make more money working with a network of advertisers/publishers than working directly with Google. Some bloggers absolutely kill it and make over $20k per month from display ads alone. There are often ad networks/publishers that specialize in your industry, so just search for ad networks [in your industry] on Google and you will likely find some ad networks you can use. Some of them are very selective about who they work with, so you might want to check with others.

03. Affiliate advertising :-

From $5 to $500 per click per month

Affiliate marketing is legal and you can make a lot of money by placing affiliate ads on your website. In almost any industry, you can make money by recommending products or services and get paid whenever someone signs up through your link. These are profitable affiliate ads for bloggers and advertisers because the advertiser gets a confirmed subscription and you, the blogger, are likely to get more money per confirmed subscription rather than per confirmed click. While you can earn from $1 to $3 per click, with affiliate commissions, depending on the product you are promoting, you can earn from $5 to $500 (or more!) when someone signs up through your link. So how do you make this type of money? I only recommend products or services that you trust and/or use. The quickest way to lose readers is to recommend a bad or undesirable product simply because you will get paid if they click on it and sign up. Not worth shooting for. Focus on finding affiliate relationships for products you trust and/or have used. Not all companies have affiliate programs or hide them from a small group of bloggers. Simply contact the manufacturer of your favorite products and/or services to find out if they have an affiliate program. If so, they may have minimum traffic requirements, and if so, please contact them once traffic increases. To learn everything you need to know to make money from affiliate marketing, here is the best course I found from my friend Michelle – Learn About Affiliate Marketing. The ROI on this course is amazing! You can get your money back in just a few weeks. Sure, check it out

04. Sponsored Content :-

From $50 to $1000 per item/month

The bigger your blog is, the more people will be willing to pay to have their content published on your blog. You will be very impressed. About 100 people contact me every week asking to publish their articles about millennial money. They will usually pay you between $50-$1000 to have their articles published on your blog. You may think it costs a lot of money to publish another article, but you need to be careful. Google doesn't like this, and if they think you're posting too much paid content, they may blacklist your blog (which is really terrible and will make you unable to recover). You should also be careful about how often you post sponsored content, as these posts are often terrible or have bad links. If you link a bad link to a bad blog post, Google will notice it and your audience will notice it too. So, be very careful when accepting sponsored content posts or charging more and write your posts. In three years of writing for Millennium Finance, I only received four sponsored articles, which was more stressful and costly for me. All of this is directly related to the idea/service I am promoting. Protect your readers and Google's reputation first, then consider sponsored content!

05. AD BUY Direct Display :-

200 to $2500 per view/month

Some brands or companies will contact you to place banner ads on your website to promote their products. You can also contact companies that are suitable for your blog's target audience and category. In fact, display ads will appear on every page of your blog and get maximum visibility.

Typically, you can earn between $200 and $2,500 per month per post, depending on what topic you blog about. You can sell 728 x 90 banner ads for the most money because they are most visible when placed in your blog's header. But be careful not to put too many ads on your blog: you can usually only sell a limited number of direct display ad purchases at a time. But if you really want to, you can click that button and place small ads in your blog's sidebar (have you seen those little square ads on websites?) - some bloggers make a lot of money doing that. Lots of money from 100p/100p ads. Really targeted. . Recently there was an app that wanted to appear on the Millennial Money homepage for a month but I didn't put ads on my homepage. In the end, they offered me $15,000 for a month's internship, which I couldn't refuse. So I made a temporary box on my homepage to let them know. Always negotiate - let them make the first offer, then ask for at least $100-$200 more. Don't leave money on the table.

06. Social Media Promotion :-

$500 - $3000 per promotion/month

I was surprised when a brand first paid me to tweet. In fact, I can't imagine that someone would pay me $500 to tweet for only 30 minutes in a Twitter conversation. How amazing. Since then, I've been paid anywhere from $500 to $3,000 to do simple social media ads on other people's content. If you're an influencer or an expert in your field, you can make money by promoting products or services on social media. The more followers you have, the more money you can get. Paid advertising is one area that can pay off by growing a massive social media audience. For example, many bloggers I know who have a large following on Instagram make at least $5,000 per month by promoting products in their field (especially fashion and travel). Sure, they have blogs, but they make more money from social media when they grow their blogs.

07. Paid Social Media Content Promotion :-

$30,000+/month

This is how many of the biggest and most profitable bloggers make money. Depending on the topic you're writing about and the affiliates you work with, you can crush it by running Facebook or Google ads on your monetized content. This is an effective and popular blog monetization strategy used by many bloggers.

The way it works is that you buy Facebook traffic to your blog for between 3 cents to $2 per click, but then a certain percentage of that traffic logs in, or buys something through one of your links. You can then manage the amount spent on ad clicks to generate affiliate revenue. While this definitely requires testing Facebook and/or Google ads, over time you'll find a winning combination (i.e., for every $1 spent on ads, you earn $5 in affiliate revenue) and it can add up fast. I know bloggers who spend $20,000 or more on ad traffic to their sites, but get over $30,000 in revenue from that ad spend! I know some bloggers who make over a million dollars a month by buying and monetizing paid traffic. I've never been good at making this type of money, but it's definitely something I've discovered and developed over at Millennial Money.

08. ONLINE COURSES :-

Although it may be difficult to launch a course right after launching your blog, creating a course is a great way to make money from your blog. Selling your expertise and making money by teaching others has never been easier. You can host your course on your WordPress blog using plugins like WordPress LMS or through a third-party site like Teachable.

In 2017, I launched the first version of my Millennial Money course and it was so successful that I had to shut it down just 30 days after launching it because I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Supporting all the students is a challenge, but the course is definitely effective.

Many of my blogger friends have launched multiple 6-figure courses, and some of them have made 7 figures on their courses (yes, you read that right: they’ve made over a million dollars just by launching courses through their blogs). If you're thinking about launching a course, take a look at what else is on the market and who you'll be competing with, because I've seen a lot of bloggers recommend courses they spent a lot of time creating that failed. It worked out pretty well.

If you're planning to develop a course offered by someone else, think carefully about what will make your course different and why someone might buy it from you rather than someone else. Will your audience buy it? Generally, it's best to launch a course after you've been blogging for a while and learned more about your audience and what they want to buy.

09. Consulting with Companies :-

$500 - $15,000 per consulting/month

Over the years, many large and small companies have paid me consulting fees to do a variety of tasks, such as providing feedback on mobile apps, providing feedback on new financial websites, and flying in and working with their design and development team . . . marketing to millennials or talking to their financial advisor.

Although I have been offered a few consulting jobs, I only accept jobs where I really want to learn about the product or establish a long-term relationship with the company. If you become an expert in your field or have a unique perspective, companies may be willing to pay for your expertise.

If you want to get consulting work, the best way to do it is through LinkedIn — probably 80% of my consulting opportunities come from LinkedIn messages, not through my actual blogging platform. But 100% of the time, companies ask me to advise them simply because of my background and the Millennial Money blog. An easy way to prepare for consulting opportunities is to connect with other bloggers on LinkedIn and people who work at companies in your industry.

Then start using LinkedIn to distribute some of your content. Also, the next time a company contacts you to review their product, ask if they want to let you try it out and discuss it in person (you might get paid and a free flight to somewhere interesting!). They can charge companies anywhere from $500 for a quick call to $15,000 for a day-long trip and conference with their team.

10. Brands Partnership :-

$25,000+/month

As you start to gain attention in your industry, brands may start reaching out to you to discuss ways to “work together.” Be prepared when this happens and come up with ideas and product packages on how you can help their brand reach your audience and vice versa. If you partner with the right brands, you will also benefit because they will also share your content and send their followers an email about you.

I have been able to attract a lot of followers to the blog through several partnerships with big brands. Another advantage of big brands is that they can have bigger budgets, which means they have more money to work with you.

My largest brand partnership was a two-month deal for $50,000, which took me very little time and benefited my brand partner and audience. Tip: Most brands will want to start small with you, but don’t sell yourself short. If a brand approaches you, they want to work with you, so be prepared to negotiate. The first few deals with brands cost me and ultimately cost me a lot of work. Over time, you should focus on building long-term business partnerships that are mutually beneficial and can become a consistent form of revenue for your platform.

11 . PODCAST SPONSORSHIP :-

$100 – $500 per episode/month

While podcasting is the wild west right now, and it’s hard to make a lot of money unless you have a large audience, it’s relatively easy to work with a podcast host like PodBean (which I use!) to make money yourself through podcasting. In fact, PodBean has a feature where you can sign up for free and let them place short ads before and after your podcast. You don’t have to do anything – just keep streaming and then win. Another way to sell advertising is to have a brand or company contact you directly. But like I said, it’s the wild west, so it’s hard to know what fees and how much companies are willing to pay. Between $100 and $500 per episode is very common. Although I made very little money from the Millennial Money Minutes podcast, I did include podcast advertising as part of the brand partnerships I sold. If you are a new blogger, I recommend blogging for 6 months before starting a podcast. The worst thing you can do is get tired and stop working on your blog. Podcasting takes a lot of work.

12.  Private 1 - On - Coasing :-

Up to $50,000 USD per month

I started offering private coaching in the summer of 2017 and really enjoy it. It’s a proven way to earn a steady income through the Millennial Money platform and connect directly with your audience. I learned a lot about coaching and how to help readers through private coaching sessions.

The only challenge is that even though I talk to my private clients 30 minutes a week or 1 hour every two weeks, it actually takes longer because I’m always preparing and thinking about my clients. So I only work with 5 people at a time. No matter how big the blog is, I always prefer to work one-on-one with 5 people because I love it and it’s the most effective way for me to help people grow their online business and accelerate their financial freedom. In 2017, I was able to earn almost $50,000 through my private coaching clients.

13. Conference Speaking :-

$1,000 - $15,000 per gig/month

I can't wait for my book to be published because it will make speaking at conferences mean more (because they might buy the book too!) However, conference speaking is hard and often requires a lot of travel. I'm very selective about the events I speak at but I want to continue to take advantage of this opportunity through the Millennial Money platform, especially as I promote the book. I know some bloggers who make at least $200k per year just by speaking at conferences.

14. Book Deal :-

Month If you've become an expert in your field, write well about your topic, and have built an audience, you may be a good candidate for a publishing deal. Book agents and publishers are always looking for talented and experienced writers. While it may seem crazy to think about writing a book right now, it can be a real possibility when you're growing your blog.

If you would have told me 3 years ago when I started the Millennial Money blog that I could sign a book deal with a major publisher, I would have thought you were crazy. Truly, you never know where blogging will take you - it's all part of the adventure. As you know, I will be giving away at least 500 copies of the book to my book list - if you want to subscribe to that list, you can do so here.

15. Freelance Writing Opportunities :-

$300 to $1000 per product/month

Last but not least, blogging is writing, so the more you blog, the better writer you become, and the greater the chance of selling that expertise through freelance writing opportunities.

Many companies and publications are looking for the right experts to write for them and they will pay you to write. Many new bloggers use freelance writing opportunities to supplement their blog income while you start blogging and build an audience. Another benefit of earning money through freelance writing is that you can become more known as an expert in your field and build your portfolio.

Typically, freelance writers can earn between $300 and $1,000 per freelance blog post, and more money for longer posts like white papers or reports. …..and there are many other additional ways to monetize your blog, such as selling products, monetizing YouTube or videos on your blog, selling access to member areas, and much more. Always remember that you are creating a platform, and the more creative you are, the more money you will make. Your blog site is very important.
